About Programme

The Department of Philosophy, which
was established in 2009, started to teach at the undergraduate level in the
2010-2011 academic year. Starting from the academic season of 2012-2013, our
department, which continues to teach with the English program of 30%, gave its
first graduate students in June of 2014. The Department has 3 Associated Professors, 4 Assistant Professors and 3 Researchers. Our Department maintains the heritage of the Nisibis Academia and suggests a qualified education in various philosophical fields. Among them there are systematical philosophy, Logic, History of Philosophy and Islamic Philosophy in the Department. Through these disciplines our Department do not only teaches the fundamental problems of the Western Philosophy, but also it gives a systematical approach to the Eastern philosophical traditions.

History
The Department of Philosophy began its preparations in 2009 and started offering undergraduate education in the 2010–2011 academic year. Since the 2012–2013 academic year, the department has continued its education with a 30% English program and graduated its first students in June 2014. From the 2020–2021 academic year onward, newly enrolled students are no longer required to complete a one-year English preparatory class and will graduate with a 100% Turkish undergraduate diploma, being exempted from English courses offered within the program.
Mardin Artuklu University Department of Philosophy regards itself as the heir to the two-thousand-year-old Nisibis Academy and stands out with the richness of its areas of study. This richness is reflected in its four subfields. Our faculty members carry out their research under the subfields of Systematic Philosophy and Logic, History of Philosophy, and Islamic Philosophy. Within these areas, both the fundamental debates and schools of Western philosophy and the traditions of Eastern philosophy are systematically introduced. In doing so, the department offers not only core philosophy courses but also a wide range of elective courses, enabling students to expand their intellectual horizons in line with their own interests and needs.

Admission Requirements
|
In order to obtain undergraduate education in Philosophy section, it is necessary to complete the education at the secondary education level and to get enough points in examinations made by ÖSYM.

Higher Grade Transition
|
Students who successfully complete their undergraduate education may pursue graduate programs in their field or related disciplines, provided that they achieve the required score in the ALES examination and meet foreign language proficiency requirements.

Occupational Profiles of Graduates
Provided that they obtain teaching certification:
- Philosophy group teaching positions in high schools affiliated with the Ministry of National Education (courses such as Philosophy, Psychology, Sociology, and Logic).
- Private education institutions: philosophy teacher positions in private high schools, study centers, and preparatory schools.
- First step toward an academic career: continuing with master’s and doctoral studies for an academic career.

Assessment and Grading
According to Article 33 of the Mardin Artuklu University Associate and Undergraduate Education and Examination Regulations:
“The course grade is determined by combining the scores obtained in midterm and final exams, and this result indicates the student’s academic achievement status. To successfully complete a course, at least 30% of the average of the midterm(s) and at most 70% of the final or resit exam must add up to a minimum of 60 points. The grade obtained in the resit exam replaces the final exam grade.”
