The Master's Degree Program with Thesis in Political Science and International Relations at Mardin Artuklu University is a graduate program that aims to provide in-depth theoretical and analytical knowledge in the disciplines of political science and international relations. The program aims to develop students' ability to analyze political, economic, and social processes at the national, regional, and global levels using scientific methods. The language of instruction is Turkish, and the program also encourages the use of English sources to understand the field's literature. Courses focus on theoretical analysis, research methods, regional studies, and foreign policy. Throughout the program, students conduct original research through seminars, projects, and thesis work. Graduates are equipped to work in public institutions, foreign affairs units, non-governmental organizations, think tanks, and academic institutions. The program is conducted on the basis of scientific ethics, critical thinking, and interdisciplinary understanding. With its research-oriented approach, it equips students with the ability to develop solution-oriented policy proposals for regional and global issues. Through the thesis process, students aim to make unique contributions to the field by conducting analyses and evaluations that contribute to science in their areas of expertise.

The Master's program in Political Science and International Relations with thesis, which opened in 2018, has been accepting students regularly since its inception.

Academic Proficiency Level
Advanced theoretical knowledge: critically applies political theories, comparative politics, and UI theories.
Methodological competence: designs qualitative/quantitative research; collects and analyzes data; produces reports/theses in accordance with academic writing rules.

Professional Application Degree
Policy analysis: develops evidence-based policy options; performs impact/feasibility analysis.
Communication and presentation: prepares policy briefs; delivers effective presentations in Turkish/English to different stakeholders.

Admission Requirements
|
The program accepts students who have completed their undergraduate education in the following departments: Law, Political Science, Political Science and Public Administration, Public Administration, Political Science and International Relations, Sociology, History, Philosophy, Theology, and Economics. Applicants are required to take a science exam and undergo an interview.

Higher Grade Transition
|
The student advances to the thesis stage upon successfully completing all courses and credits and submitting a thesis proposal approved by their advisor and the institute. During the thesis phase, the student works with their official advisor; submits at least one conference paper related to their thesis and/or produces a book chapter or article; and successfully completes their thesis defense before a jury appointed by the institute.

Graduation Requirements
The duration of the thesis-based master's program is four semesters, starting from the semester in which the courses related to the registered program are offered, regardless of whether the student registers for each semester. The program must be completed within a maximum of six semesters. Students who successfully complete the ECTS credit requirement and seminar, and who complete their thesis work in the third semester and successfully defend their thesis, may graduate before the end of the program duration.
The student must have completed a minimum of 120 ECTS and 21 credits, including at least eight courses and thesis work, including the seminar course, and must not have any failed or unfinished courses.
The student must have fulfilled the academic publication requirement (the name of the Institute must appear in the publication). Regarding publications, the student must have fulfilled at least one of the following:
At least one academic publication must have been made in order to take the thesis defense exam. The name of the relevant institute must appear in the publication. In master's programs conducted under the main art/art branch, this requirement does not apply, as the production of an artwork is mandatory in order to take the thesis defense exam.
Have at least one article published in national/international peer-reviewed journals,
Have a full text presented at national/international scientific meetings, published in a printed or electronic conference proceedings, or have a book, book editorship, or chapter authorship published by national/international publishers,
Successfully defend the thesis before the thesis defense jury.

Occupational Profiles of Graduates
|
Graduates of the Master's program in Political Science and International Relations with a thesis have extensive employment opportunities. A significant portion of graduates pursue doctoral education with the goal of an academic career. In the public sector, they can work in expert or managerial positions in ministries such as Foreign Affairs, Interior, Treasury, and Finance, in the Presidency and Grand National Assembly of Turkey (GNAT) expert units, and in institutions such as the Migration Administration, Disaster and Emergency Management Authority (AFAD), and Turkish Cooperation and Coordination Agency (TİKA). There are also opportunities to work in international organizations (UN, EU, NATO, OECD) and foreign missions. In the private sector, they can be employed in strategy and business development, corporate relations, risk analysis, consulting, communication, and media. They can also take on roles as policy researchers, project managers, or advocates in non-governmental organizations and think tanks. They can also work in foreign news and analysis in the media and publishing sector. For these positions, exams such as KPSS, ALES, YDS/TOEFL, and the institutions' own interviews are usually decisive.

Assessment and Grading
In thesis-based master's programs, assessment and evaluation are designed in a multidimensional manner to enable students to demonstrate both their subject knowledge and research competence. Examinations are conducted in a manner that collects multiple pieces of evidence, adhering to the principles of academic integrity and validity, reliability and transparency, and research-orientedness, without being limited to a single type of examination.
